About the event

This will be an on-farm workshop about the basics of growing your own cutting garden. Included in this workshop is a tray with 30 robust and ready-to-plant starts (a $100 value) that will ensure your success this season! We will cover:

  • When and how to plant
  • Which plants to pinch to create bushy plants with lots of blooms
  • What types of natural fertilizers to use to keep your plants healthy
  • How to harvest blooms to enjoy in bouquets and arrangements
  • Post-harvest care to help your blooms last as long as possible
  • All my favorite types of cutting garden plants, including all the elements necessary to create a beautiful bouquet!

The workshop will take place outdoors. Because spring weather can be quite variable, remember to dress accordingly. The class will take place rain or shine - we will have tents set up if there is rain that day.

We'll save time at the end of the workshop for an exclusive farm tour. Our workshops are the only time we open our micro-farm fields to the public. You'll be able to explore our rows with many baby plants starting to grow and ask us all your burning questions about how to best grow these beautiful specialty cut flowers yourself.

The plants included in your tray will be unique hard-to-find varieties that will set your flower arrangements apart! They have been selected as flowers that grow well in our area and may include:

  • Zinnia
  • Lisianthus
  • Strawflower
  • Cosmos
  • Aster
  • Scabiosa
  • Dahlia cuttings
  • Snapdragons
  • Basil

(Exact flowers will depend on how well each variety grows for us - we’ll only give you our best most healthy plants! Trays of plants may not all be identical. This late-season class will feature plants that don't tolerate cold temps, including dahlia cuttings.)

We will include detailed planting instructions. These plants can fit in a 4X8 area, or be more spread out as well.  They will create blooms for you all season long! Dahlia Tubers will also be available to purchase on the day of the workshop if you would like to try growing dahlias this year as well.

Here are some testimonials from previous workshop attendees:

"My garden was a huge success! It was my first time growing a flower garden and it was the highlight of my summer. I was shocked at how long the flowers kept growing! The colors you chose were really beautiful. "

"I purchased calendula and zinnia seeds and they were very abundant. Everything else grew well. The flowers really didn’t need extra help flourishing."

"Your flower farm is lovely. Your class was fun, informative, and professional. I loved all the special details - it made the day so enjoyable and beautiful!"

Workshop purchases are non-refundable. If something comes up, you may have a friend come to the workshop in your place.
