About the event
This will be an on-farm workshop about the basics of growing your own cutting garden. Included in this workshop are 6 Utah-grown dahlia tubers (a $60+ value) as well as a dahlia clump that I will help you divide during the class!  This clump will likely create at least 4 additional tubers (if not more!) that you can take home with you after the workshop as well.  You will be going home with a total of TEN tubers (this will pay for the cost of the class itself!)Â
Click here to view the varieties we are planning on having available to our workshop participants.
We will cover:
- When and how to plant
- How to support your plants
- How to pinch to create bushy plants with lots of blooms
- Diseases and pests to watch for and how to treat for them
- How to disbud to increase stem length
- What types of natural fertilizers to use to keep your plants healthy
- How to harvest blooms to enjoy in bouquets and arrangements
- Post-harvest care to help your blooms last as long as possible
- How to dig/divide/store dahlias over winter
- How to propagate your dahlias through cuttings
- Since it's prime dahlia planting season, we will be able to give you hands-on experience with dividing, taking cuttings, and planting. You'll go home with 6 tubers or cuttings to take home and plant (a $60+ value!)
The workshop will take place outdoors. Because spring weather can be quite variable, remember to dress accordingly. The class will take place rain or shine - we will have tents set up if there is rain that day.
This class will give you everything you need to know to grow dahlias this season! We'd love to have you come explore with us at our workshop!
