Foothill Farm Flowers is Hiring!

Foothill Farm Flowers is hiring for the 2024 season.

Part-Time Seasonal Flower Farmer(s)

Objective:

A hard-working, energetic morning person who doesn't mind getting filthy, and enjoys a fast-paced work environment. This position is part-time and seasonal, beginning in late April-June and August through mid-October. This position will not involve any floral design, only farming tasks.

April and May will consist of bed-prepping, transplanting, and harvesting, with the timing of hours somewhat flexible. We have to work around the weather a bit, so some flexibility in schedule is necessary, but work days would typically be Tuesday and Friday with timing between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm. The expected commitment would be 4-6 hours per week, depending on the week.

Beginning in June harvest takes place on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 6:30-9:30 am. If we finish harvest before 9:30, we will complete the hours with weeding, fixing irrigation, pinching plants, and any other outdoor farm tasks that come up that week.

This year we will not need any labor during July. But harvests will begin again in August, with those same early morning hours: 6:30-9:30. We will finish up the season when we get our first frost, sometime in October. There will also be fall planting and dahlia digging that we will need help with in October and November. The hours for these tasks are more flexible.

We are looking for individuals who enjoy repetitive tasks, work well in solitude (headphones allowed!), and are quick to learn new skills. Previous experience in a bustling physical environment is helpful. We have a lot to do, and we need to get it done quickly!

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

– Harvesting a wide variety of crops efficiently and accurately

– Learning the proper stage of harvest and post-harvest treatment of all crops

– Weeding planting beds quickly and efficiently

– Moving and spreading compost and wood chips

– Spring planting and ongoing succession planting throughout the season

– Understanding and performing safe and responsible use of tools and equipment

– Assisting with end-of-season farm clean-up tasks such as removing crop residue, spreading mulch, digging dahlias, etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

– Must be able and willing to work in the dirt every day. Gloves will be provided.

– Must be able to be on time for harvesting in the early hours of the morning.

– Must be able and willing to hustle and be on your feet or knees during your shift.

– Must possess effective and positive communication skills.

– Must be goal-oriented and self-motivated to work independently regularly.

– Previous gardening experience appreciated.

This position reports to the farm in Provo (zip 84604). Compensation starts at $12/hr. with performance goals set to increase compensation quickly to $15+/hr. for the right employee.

To Apply:

Please note: This position is not involved in floral design. This is a position dedicated entirely to the hard work of farming. Do not apply if you expect to be creating floral designs.
